BIO
Simply put, I use threads and fabric to create contemporary fiber art. Encompassing processes ranging from stitching, weaving, embroidering, and knotting, my work includes wall hangings, sculptures and installations. My practice is centered around sustainability by reusing and repurposing. I use fabric remnants, thrifted and gifted clothes and a variety of random found materials. My studio space/bedroom is a creative nest of colors and textures.
I am inspired by nature, particularly the flora and fauna found in West Texas and New Mexico. Road trips down dusty cactus and wildflower lined highways have forged memories of the sky and the earth.
My father was an upholsterer and my mother a seamstress, passing down generations of traditional skills. I can visualize my father’s hand-tying of bouncy springs and his ability to manipulate the appearance of fabric with folds and tufts. I merge traditional and nontraditional methods of layering fabrics to present works that not only tell a story but spark curiosity and inspire others. The meditative process of creating through a variety of colors, texture and form brings peace and healing.
