Calistro Junior Vasquez hails from the musical community of Lubbock, Texas, 1 of 11 children born to Calistro and Josefina Vasquez on November 30th 1956.
Junior picked up his first guitar when he was 10 years old, had his first band “The Young Rebels” when he was 11.
Playing music has been his passion ever since.
During his early years he was influenced by the music of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Eagles, America, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg , Batdorf and Rodney and James Taylor.
During most of the 70’s he played and traveled throughout the Southwest until the early 80’s when he settled down to raise a family with his wife Mickie. His musical endeavors also took a different turn as he pursued his Christian/spiritual life. He recorded an album with a band named Burning Heart in 1986.
In 1995 Don Caldwell of the famous Cactus Theater in Lubbock contacted Junior about being part of the musical family there at the theater. He played several years there and also cut his teeth in theater performing/acting in several musicals/plays.
In early 2000 he wrote his first of many jingles for the local market and has written close to 100 jingles since then. During this time he has been performing consistently in local venues.
In 2009 he wrote and produced his first solo album, “It’ll Turn Around”, and sold over 1500 copies.
Junior was a supporting actor in the nationally released movie “The Arroyo”. The movie premiered in Lubbock and in Hollywood in early 2014.
In August of 2019 he released his second solo album “Random” produced by Texas legend Jay Boy Adams.
Music
Acoustic guitar driven, harmony laden Folk Rock inspired by my favorite 70’s artist: Songs about life’s ups and downs, loves lost, moments enjoyed and the beginning of life itself….
