One of the things that we love the most about the arts in Lubbock is the unique collaborative spirit and the knowledge and belief that we’re stronger when we work together. There are countless examples of artists and performers coming together to create a new and unique event. For the first time ever, two long-standing Lubbock youth arts organizations are connecting for a historic night of music. The Caldwell Kids and the Lubbock Youth Orchestra will hold a concert November 11 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theater – doors will open at 7:00pm.
With a full orchestra, full rhythm section, background and featured vocalists, this event will showcase the incredible talent of these young singers and musicians. Music is one of the things that makes Lubbock so special. It’s woven deep into our culture starting with the one and only Buddy Holly (who started his career close to the ages of many of these musicians) and continuing today to young people who seek to share their gifts with an audience and receive joy from doing so. The show will include favorites by Johnny Cash and Taylor Swift and much more. The opportunity to collaborate offers new skills and experiences to both the orchestra students and to the Caldwell kids allowing many firsts in a performance experience.
Terri Caldwell, director of Caldwell Kids Entertainment, said the experience of singing with an orchestra is invaluable for her vocal students. “Besides the sheer beauty of the instruments, they can witness how much work goes into each song. It will be a memory that lasts a lifetime,” Caldwell said. Caldwell Kids have a long history of making amazing music. From the stage at the Cactus Theater to the White House students within the Caldwell Entertainment family have always been not only incredibly talented, but amazing performers.
The Lubbock Youth Orchestra (LYO) also has a reputation for developing young talent and an exceptional performance reputation. Now under the umbrella of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra – LYO gains the accomplished leadership of Kea Beasley as its Education Director. The LYO is celebrating its 35th Season with this very special partnership and concert. According to Beasley, “There is no better way to celebrate than with an amazing collaboration with the Caldwell Kids,” Beasley said. “These students have worked so hard, and we cannot wait to share their talents with the community!”
