The Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation (LCAF) and the Lubbock Music Friendly Advisory Committee are proud to present the third annual “Getting the Gig”, a day filled with networking and educational workshops. The event is focused on providing local musicians with the information and resources needed to secure performance venues, learn effective negotiation strategies and meet managers and venue owners. The event also offers a performance opportunity. The workshop will be held Thursday, November 30 at Jake’s Backroom at 5025 50th Street.
The day will begin with the music venue panel featuring booking managers from:
- Two Doc’s Brewery
- Jake’s
- Savage Tavern
- Cactus Theater
- Cook’s Garage
This session will be moderated by Amusement Park Recording Studio owner Scott Faris. The discussion will focus around insight on how to book a performance, playing on the stages of each facility, and how each venue selects talent.
The additional educational panel this year will be centered around increasing knowledge of negotiation practices for musicians as they are booking. This panel will consist of:
- Joy Harris
- Junior Vasquez
- Dustin Garrett
It will be moderated by Dr. Jonathan Verbeten of Texas Tech University’s Music Archive of the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library. This will be a great opportunity to learn how these industry pros represent themselves and get their desired rates and performance opportunities.
This year’s event will also feature a showcase. To apply for the showcase, musicians may fill out the form and submit samples of their performances through the website. The chosen musicians will play after the panel discussion for the audience and panelists. The purpose of the showcase is to assist emerging artists with an opportunity to play for established Lubbock venues. All genres of music are welcome and will be judged for inclusion by an anonymous panel of professional musicians.
