Making It Work: From Grades to Gigs is an exciting professional development event designed to bridge the gap between formal music training and real-world opportunities. The event features two dynamic workshops led by Lubbock Symphony Orchestra Maestro David Cho and singer/songwriter Hannah Jackson.
The event begins with Maestro Cho offering invaluable insights on how to prepare for auditions and increase your chances of securing an orchestra gig, followed by a discussion with Jackson on how to apply the skills gained from formal training to thrive in the commercial music industry.
In addition to the invaluable lessons shared by these music professionals, attendees can look forward to select musical performances throughout the event!

Speakers
David Cho
Born in Seoul, Korea, David Cho immigrated to the United States in 1985. He attended Oberlin College and Conservatory and Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University where he received Piano Performance degrees. David attended Tanglewood Music Center and studied conducting with Larry Rachleff at Rice University.
David served as Associate Conductor with Utah (2006-2011) and San Antonio (2004-2007) Symphonies and made his debut at Carnegie Hall and John F. Kennedy Center in 2004. David was appointed as Lubbock Symphony’s seventh music director in 2011 and is active in the West Texas community, promoting music education and live symphonic music.
Hannah Jackson
Hannah Jackson is an accomplished singer-songwriter with more than two decades of experience as a performer and recording artist. Known for her commanding stage presence and powerhouse vocals, she has appeared at esteemed venues including The Bluebird Café in Nashville, Buddy Holly Hall, and Music Hill Ranch. Her work spans collaborations with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, featured performances on Lubbock Music Now albums, a song placement in a Hallmark film, and recognition as a Top 40 contest on the X Factor.
Jackson’s career highlights include sharing the stage with artists such as Lee Greenwood, Stephanie Quayle, Will Banister, Kenny Maines, The Powell Brothers, Rick Trevino, and Jeff Cohen.
